Snow condition
In general, the snow conditions are slightly above average. Not huge amounts, but you can reach the valley in all exposures and in the forest without any contact with stones or meadows. A north-facing slope towards Nufenen had very little snow, either it all went down there once or the foehn blew out this valley. The snow-covered deposits indicate the former.
Snow quality
It was quite cold on Fri. and Sat. The set powder was quite dull and therefore very slow. Little wind allowed powdery descents in all exposures. On Sunday we went on a south-facing tour. There was more wind influence plus sun. At the bottom, where the sun was burning down, it was already spring-like.
Risks
SLF issued a 3 on Friday and Saturday and warned of drifting snow on ridges and all expos except north! On Friday we had decided on a slope on the northeast side on No and then went down a short slope on the southwest side and promptly triggered something - I couldn't really recognize drift snow. The board went down on the old snow layer and was about 30-40cm high and had a maximum crack width of 30m at the top. Nothing happened. Yesterday, Sunday, the lower part was already slushy and in the sun it was quite slippery. There were lots of steep lines on the north side
Overall impression
Fantastic weekend in Ticino. Top conditions, good snow - almost froze to death on Friday and Saturday and got the first red nose from the sun yesterday.
There's still a lot to do here in the valley.
