There is still a good base at the exit of the Gotthard tunnel. However, the heat wave is causing this to melt away more and more. Steep south-facing slopes have already slipped in many places.
Snow quality
Protected and north-facing powder was still to be found this week. After that, everything else. Not really firn yet.
Risks
Spring conditions. Get out early and finish early. Larger avalanches reach the valley on the south side. Sliding snow mouths are opening more and more. Yesterday and the day before yesterday we were able to linger on the playground until 3 pm, as a high fog soup hung right up to the main ridge.
Overall impression
Beautiful tours, freeride and piste week in the Bedretto Valley.
Spring is coming with a vengeance. Let's hope winter comes back again.
