Wind drifted snow

It rained this week from Mon to Tue until about 2,200 m. As a result - and due to the suptropical warmth - the snow is very settled and there is little spray. But probably less of a problem with old snow. For us, the snow was fine, firn and hard snow but easy to ski. Still wet pow at the beginning of the week, now history...

Wind drifted snow

East

Intensity: medium

Above: 2000 m

Risks

Diurnal warming
Much water in the snow cover
West

Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)

Impressively large older avalanches on south and north-facing slopes, currently more wet snow slides. We have not identified any current signs of an old snow problem.

Overall impression

4 von 5 Sterne
Equal

We've been out for 4 days as of Mon, huts and a winter room. We found good snow, with Pow only a little wind-pressed or blown in, otherwise firn. Avalanche risk assessed as acceptable for us, all in all great weather, top huts. Adapted tour planning paid off. 4th star is extra - for a week of pleasure in Ticino.
