Snow condition
The snow conditions are really good for the beginning of May. Of course, there's not enough on sunny slopes down into the valley, but there's often not too much missing. In the forest there is still more snow at ~1600m than there was in the northern Alps for the whole season, above 2000m it is still really wintry. On forest paths/alpine pastures you can sometimes start skiing at ~1400m, with short stretches even further down.
Snow quality
Below 2000m, due to the long period without fresh snow, it is already real summer snow, in which you no longer sink deep even late in the afternoon. Very rough in the morning here. Above 2000m there was some fresh snow during the week, which makes for a smooth surface and perfect firn. In high and very sun-protected areas there is still some good powder snow.
Risks
Spring conditions, pay attention to diurnal cycle.
Overall impression
Saturday afternoon start at 1200m (just under an hour's carry) with a mixture of sun, drizzle, sleet and light snowfall on the Refugio Brentei. Overnight stay in the completely overcrowded winter room, today Canalone Neri and the Cima Tosa in great conditions. It rarely gets this good in May, unfortunately also very busy. The gully has a lot of snow, almost no ice visible. Below 2000m the snow melts extremely quickly, above that it stays good for quite a while.
