Snow condition

4 von 5 Sterne

Great snow conditions, at the top of the Presena glacier there is probably about 3-4 m of snow and almost everything is skiable in the terrain. Steeper gullies also have plenty of snow. On the south side, of course, it looks a bit worse than on the north side. But this is also due to the many sliding snow avalanches.

Snow quality

Unfortunately, the snow quality was not as good as we had hoped. Due to the strong wind the day before, the snow was wind-packed in many places. It was good to ski in hollows, but worse on ridges and wide, open slopes, and the wind also worked in supposedly wind-protected gullies. Still powdery, of course, and therefore easy to ski in steep gullies. But no snow conditions to really step on the gas.

Risks

On the south side, there are many and sometimes large sliding snow avalanches (see pictures), otherwise the wind has of course formed drift snow packs. Steep areas blown in should be avoided. Due to the low temperatures, these mostly small drift snow packs would be relatively easy to disturb.

Overall impression

3 von 5 Sterne

As the Presena glacier was open for the first time this winter and the snow conditions are currently outstanding, the day was to be used for some nice freeride runs. However, as the snow quality was not as good as we had hoped, there were "only" a few nice runs and a steep gully at the end. The snow there was also affected by the wind, but was still powdery and grippy.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
