Ski tour in the Hochries region: in good snow and without rock contact

Snow condition
As already described in the last reports, the snow conditions west of the Prien (a river in the Sachrangtal) are a little worse than east of it. In the meantime, however, you can tour quite acceptably here too. In the Geigelstein region, things have been going quite well since the first big snowfall. Snow conditions at the parking lot are still quite poor but get better with every meter of altitude. From about 1000m there is a reasonably solid base. Ridges and areas exposed to the wind are still blown off.
Snow quality
Before the snowfall, it rained quite far up (up to about 1000m), so that a crust has formed. On top of this is about 15cm (sometimes more, sometimes less) of very good quality fresh snow from the last 24 hours. At higher altitudes, of course, without crust. But you won't find alarming amounts of fresh snow.
Risks
Drift snow problem, even at low altitudes. With the low temperatures, it will also take time for it to ease. Everything else in the LLB Bavaria. On slopes above 35°, however, the chain of arguments for skiing becomes very thin.
Overall impression
Not very deep today but the snow was really nice to ski on. Don't be put off by the poor snow conditions at the starting point. It gets much better on the mountain as the altitude increases. It's slowly getting better!
