Snow condition
The respectable snow situation in the valley unfortunately belies the poor conditions on the mountain. The 20-30 cm of fresh snow on nothing at the bottom and in sheltered aisles is heavily packed even at medium altitudes with the slightest wind exposure. Every little hump in more open areas that you could use to hop around is actually just covered in frost. Towards the tree line, routes are chosen through hollows between exposed stones.
Snow quality
Flawless. Powder with frost topping. Whispering to hissing on the descent. Depth of sinking would be considerable with more powder, but not excessive, caution, sticks to warm ski base.
Risks
Clear old snow problem in shady slopes (probably self-releasing at an altitude of approx. 1400 m NW 30-35° see photo4). In hollows with deep snow, slight settling directly underfoot noticeable (weak layer between 1st and 2nd precipitation phase this week?), but not propagated. Otherwise note LBB. I only see the 3s above 1500 where there was really extensive snow beforehand.
Overall impression
At the top, I rattled over rocks and then rode with the handbrake on. Unfortunately, some slopes look more tempting than they are. Very bitter conditions above the tree line. But here and there you can make a few nice turns underneath. On smooth alpine meadows and tracks, you can also take it easy far below. Plus sunshine and meeting friends by chance makes the second star.
For Fridays, there's a lot going on.
