Snow report Upper Bavaria, 01/19/2019
better than expected

Snow condition
The snow conditions are very good in the Bavarian foothills of the Alps. Only places exposed to the wind still look a little thin. However, these are manageable and can be easily avoided. The rise in temperature during the week has led to a faster settling of the snow cover.
Snow quality
The few centimetres of cold fresh snow lie on a hard base on the sunny side and on a heavily settled snow cover on the shaded side. All in all, quite nice to ride. I expected worse. 2-3 stars
Risks
Some fish mouths were clearly visible. In addition, some smaller loose snow slides have come down from steeper, sunny terrain in the past few days. Steep terrain close to the ridge in the northern exposure was visually quite well filled with drift snow. You should avoid fish mouths and pay attention to the drift snow, especially in steeper alpine terrain.
Overall impression
The early start meant that the crowds were manageable. There were also some quite good turns.
