The abundant snowfall in mid-January created a solid base. There was no ground contact either in the area above the forest or in the forest, and the fresh snow at the top has been transported by a lot of wind. In the forest, however, there is still around 30 cm of fluffy and very dry powder on this base, which we had to enjoy.

Three stars for the snow conditions. In sunny areas, the snow cover has thawed and frozen over overnight with a layer of hard snow. In general, the upper area is very hard and crisp to ski. Sharp edges and with crampons underneath are an advantage. (Splitboarder was happy about crampon support) However, there are definitely one or two powder turns to dust off in the shady forest. Here the snow quality is really desirable. Absolutely dry and without any cover.

Risks

The avalanche situation has clearly improved. Above and below the tree line, level 1 was announced for today. There are few concerns, especially in the area of the frequently frequented Hörndlwand. The summit slope faces east and is very steep.

Extremely awesome sunrise tour!!! Start at 4 am at the parking lot. Sunrise around 730am. Wonderful weather and the mix of technical ascent, descent and enjoyable lines in the forest made this morning something very special.
