Snow condition

The warm temperatures of the last week (5 - 14 °C) have had a good effect on the snow. Up to approx. 1200 m there is hardly any snow cover, above that there is massive melt cover. It snowed about 25 cm on top of this base yesterday and tonight. In the upper area, however, with strong winds.

Snow quality

Very heavy and damp up to about 1000 m. Up to approx. 1400 m difficult but still quite rideable, up to 1800 m powder in places, but mostly driven away by the wind and compacted.

Risks

It really depends on the area. We were out and about in terrain where you could see the current GMs. Strong wind loads, places with little/lots of snow and, underneath, a considerable amount of ice in places. Definitely not fun - but the tour was justifiable due to the high frequency. More caution is required in the Alps and in unknown areas.

Overall impression

2 von 5 Sterne

Better than expected, but winter is slowly getting on my nerves
