Snow condition
Compared to last weekend, the total amount of snow has worsened again thanks to rain and spring-like temperatures. Probably another 20 cm or so has disappeared. Wind-exposed and sunny areas such as ridges and crests are slowly but surely drying out. We started today from 850 m and came back halfway on skis (shaded forest path). Skiing below 1000 m makes little sense at the moment.
Snow quality
Luckily, there was a load-bearing snow cover in the ascent. After waiting a bit for the sun, the cover softened quickly and a kind of firn appeared. It was quite nice to ski. Then in the forest section, unpleasant rotten snow. Fortunately, the actual descent was fine.
Risks
We were able to see the first wet snow slides of the season. These should not be underestimated, especially in the spring-like temperatures, as there is no escape route, especially on the forest paths. Otherwise, we didn't see any danger on our tour today. The radiation night was also ok but certainly not yet optimal. Start early and finish early.
Overall impression
A beautiful solitary undertaking far away from the crowds that were sure to be there again at Spitzing.
