Chiemgau: Hinz und Kunz fliehen nach Süden
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Towards the Tyrolean border it looks much better than in the Föhn aisles and the foothills in general. The Reit in the Winkler valley basin (a good 700 m altitude) still has a good base and only the first gaps on the south side. In the forest, too, there is still a closed, hard layer of old snow all the way down (except in the south).
Snow quality
Actually, Wednesday's super-fine run - more of which fell in the southern part of Chiemgau than on the edge of the Alps - deserved three or four stars, even though the February sun was really beating down on the west today. Fast, fluffy, dusty. Unfortunately, you hit the rock-hard old snow cover with every turn. Where this was rutted, you put a lot on your knees and just can't let it go. therefore also 2*.
Risks
Only been up to the tree line, nothing observed, not critical here. LLB 1, as old snow cannot be released and fresh snow is now settled or often unbound. Yesterday in the Geigelstein area it was more blown. In tricky places you should be aware of the risk of falling from small, nasty boards.
Overall impression
Today's big Chiemgau ski tour meeting at one of the last spots where things are still going well on this side of the Tyrolean border. Can't imagine how shitty the situation would have been without the recent snowfall. It's definitely worth going out at the moment. Not so much snow-wise, but the cold and sun are just nice again. Almost like winter..
