Due to the limited amount of snow, we set off today on a spring classic in the Mangfallgebirge. From the village of Spitzingsee, you reach the Waitzingeralm on a rough road. After that there is an ice track. It would be an advantage to have spikes on your bike, but you can do without them if you ride carefully. The snow conditions are reminiscent of April. The amount of snow in the north-facing forest is not particularly abundant either. In the cirque, the snow conditions are fine from about 1300 m upwards. The snow cover was frozen today.

We opted for the east side of the cirque today. You could tell today that the sun was only in February. The sun only came into the entire east-facing cirque for a short time and disappeared again quite quickly. Where the sun had been shining since the early hours of the morning, the snow was already quite soft. The rest was a mix of usable conditions up to just under 1300m. Below that, it was quite hard in the forest and not so crazy.

Risks

No danger signs recognized today. The temperatures were only around freezing point tonight, and there was also a fairly warm southerly wind in the cirque, so the snow lost its firmness quite quickly. More or less classic spring conditions, start early and finish early.

This tour actually heads towards the end of the season every season. The snow conditions and temperatures also look like spring. If you look at the weather forecast, it doesn't look particularly good at the moment. Let's hope for the best...
