Snow condition
A few centimetres were added to yesterday afternoon. Today there was around 30 cm of fresh snow above 1200 m. As the hotspots in the Mangfallgebirge are simply too full for us at the moment, we set off again today from the valley (800 m) knowing that we have fixed routes. An existing old snow cover can be found on the north side from around 1150m. Up to this point, the snow lies on bare ground. Today the visibility was excellent and so we were able to avoid terrain traps quite well. The possibilities are very limited with the thin snow cover and you have to ski with the handbrake on.
Snow quality
The 30 cm of fresh snow was as soft as butter to ski on and with the right choice of descent, there was also no penetration of the old snow cover. Top! The snow quality will deteriorate significantly from tomorrow, everything that saw sun today will be covered tomorrow. At least here in the corner.
Risks
Quite relaxed. Every now and then the wind freshened up a little and then it was definitely strong. In our sheltered location, the wind was not a problem today. Beacon 2 >1600 m. Apart from the drift snow in the alpine terrain, the main danger is currently from terrain traps.
Overall impression
Top day with top snow! Only the thin snow cover prevents the 4 star.
