Chiemgau Afterwork
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Snow starts at 700 m at the lowest, but only in shaded forest aisles, otherwise much higher. Carrying route virtually unchanged since last week. The first slope edges are slowly reappearing at medium altitudes. Nevertheless, still good snow conditions in the Gau.
Snow quality
I actually wanted to ski the north gully on Breitenstein, but then I heard someone rattling down (and later saw them too) and decided on the hopefully not yet frozen over, slightly south-facing slope with the last sun. Fast firn there. However, there are many obstacles lying around.
Risks
The zone with sliding snow avalanche problems is slowly moving upwards, and thus into areas where smooth meadow slopes are not so common. Steep south-facing slopes are already well cleared up to over 1300m. No observations.
Overall impression
Even though failing skins prevented us from reaching the summit, it was a successful afterwork excursion. New skis tested straight away in the intended conditions. Sharp edges need thighs. Photos will be sent later, it's not possible with a stupid phone.
