Snow report Upper Bavaria, 11/26/2015
Start in den Bayrischen Voralpen: Spitzingsee
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Just enough. Ground contact was sometimes unavoidable. At the bottom (1100m) around 15cm, at the top wind-influenced 0-30. Thin base was more likely to be found further down (artificial snow or cover from the first period of precipitation) than further up (all powder). nothing works below 1000 m altitude in terms of skiing.
Snow quality
Yesterday's fresh snow - a good 10cm thick - wasn't bad to ski on at all. It would have even deserved a higher rating if it hadn't already been quite rutted
Risks
Avalanche bulletins are not yet issued regularly by the Bavarians, and there is no reason to do so. So far you can only ski on flat alpine meadows (if at all) anyway
Overall impression
A very good little piste tour to start with, nice weather, lots going on and good snow on top, but virtually no base.
The Spitzing area seems to be the easternmost border of the region where skiing is currently possible (and reasonably rewarding). Every kilometer further west there is a bit more snow, let's see how the snow line behaves over the next two days, maybe something will happen again
