Snow report Upper Black Forest, 01/17/2021
Kaltwasser über Frauenhemd
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Absolutely sufficient to good down to the Schauinslandbahn. But tends to be less well snowed in in the forest than at a similar altitude in Zastler or Wilhelmer. Somehow you've jammed better there...
Snow quality
Medium. Fluffy at the top, but somehow dull and a bit boring. The best conditions were found at the edge of the forest below the women's shirt, but more on that later...
Risks
No observations on the route.
Overall impression
Well, admittedly, cold water is certainly part of a good winter. Simply for historical reasons. But it was clear that this wasn't going to be ultimate powder fun. We found a nice shortcut through the forest and then climbed up towards Kaltwasser and then Hörne/Frauenhemd.
The "shirt" always looks nice from the city and I always thought, man, I want to go down there when there's lots of snow.
The entrance at the top of Hörnle is well fenced off and guarded by a not entirely well-meaning farmer. No chance.
After that, the slope is really good, snow conditions too, but there's a pasture fence to climb over every 200m. Without fences, this would be a top run...but it was tough as it is.
After that, the walk back to Horben via the road is doable...
The classic cold water descent is well frequented. Many tracks, eigtl completely rutted. Parking lot full at noon and lots of people on the way in both directions.
But the little ones who come down there with their parents are strong. That's really cool...
