Snow condition
I'm not sure at the moment whether I want to complain about how little there is after January ... or whether I'm happy that there's so much that there's still something left after the week of heat ...??? I'm glad that there's still something left.
Snow quality
Kind of funny. I was expecting a classic hard base after a cold, clear night. But the 3cm of fresh snow must have provided some insulation and so the Sahara crust was pleasantly soft and always supportive. It was also surprisingly cold on Sunday morning...
Risks
The sliding snow cracks behind the cornices are really impressive. At this temperature, I would rather see them hold something, but a short warm spell with some rain and that looks very different very quickly.a motivation to trudge through the ditch on foot in order to drive 3 more turns underneath, which is what the tracks represent ... I still don't see it now... stay over or away!
Overall impression
Hey, as I said, you can still go touring and do some decent snowboarding. It was pleasantly quiet.
I always find the spring situation on the local mountain exciting, because you can try out the steep sections in Zastler in a more creative way. It's always good training for any spots in the Alps. Steep and hard is something you have to do sometimes ... it's part of it ... and it's also fun.
Hoping for the announced disruption ...
