Snow condition
It's been snowing heavily from the very top down to 600m in the valley since last night. Down in the village it turns to rain from midday, but it stays cold enough up to 1000m.
Snow quality
A quick 90cm of the finest white gold was deposited here overnight, and on an already stable base! Holy fuck - the northern Upper Valais is finally getting some of this low pressure area! Face shots are included with every turn, and of course it's especially good in the forest. The snow falls below the tree line without any wind influence and is powdery to the power of 10.
Risks
As the weather warms up during the course of the day, the avalanche risk will also increase from an initial 3 to 4 from midday. The forecast shows significantly more snow on the radar. Above the tree line, it's certainly dangerous because it's heavily blown in. We do not observe any slides or individual descents throughout the day.
Overall impression
The motto of the day is: No falling! And that's not so easy. The pillowland in the middle of the forest invites you to take exuberant hops, visibility remains stable, but somersaults are inevitable. We ride close together so that we can dig each other out if the worst comes to the worst. There's a risk of suffocation when you're on top, no joke. All the people (maybe 50 in total) ride squealing through the fluffipuffiPowPow and pay tribute to Mrs. Holle! Incredible day - TOMORROW WE GO ON! Tonight almost another meter falls ;)
