Snow report Valle D'Aosta, 01/25/2014
Sturm in La Thuile
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Pretty good. A little more snow would be good in the forest below, and above the tree line the ridges (and also the areas far from the crest) were blown off massively by the stormy west wind.
Snow quality
Oh dear. Unfortunately, there's nothing to be had off the slopes, really bad variable wind slush above the tree line and hard frozen further down, and good edges are absolutely recommended on the slopes.
Risks
According to the LLB, a 3 today and a 4 tomorrow due to persistent stormy winds and some fresh snow until tomorrow. I wasn't able to observe any fresh avalanches today (it wasn't exactly the best visibility either, and I wasn't far above the tree line either), but by midday today there were already quite a few snow drifts (> 50 cm), and that was only due to the 'redistribution' of the loose old snow.
Overall impression
Today was nothing at all for freeriding. Some of the slopes were still okay. Most of the lifts were closed anyway due to the (west wind) storm. From now on, we'll have to hope for new snow, and we'll probably need some, and less wind.
The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.
Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
