Overall impression
Snow condition
There is still plenty of snow in Arolla, but if the temperatures stay this high, it will melt away quickly. The south-facing slopes are slowly becoming bare up to around 1800m. The glaciers are relatively well snow-covered, even if they are heavily blown.
Snow quality
On the north-facing slopes below 3300m you can still find nice, settled powder snow, as long as it hasn't yet run out. South-facing slopes are also quite nice until midday at the right time. In the high mountains, above 3300m, the snow is increasingly blown away. Everything is very bumpy and icy.
Risks
low. Significant risk of wet snow slides in the afternoon.
Overall impression
We urgently need a few more nice snowfalls without wind at high altitude to make it a nice spring for touring. But something is forecast for the coming weekend and it's supposed to get cooler again. Pictures at www.facebook.com/freerideguidejungfrauregion.
