Snow report Valle D'Aosta, 03/22/2014
Pila - ein paar nette Schwünge aber zu wenig Neuschnee
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Still very good above 2200 m. Below that, there is a significant loss of snow due to the warm spell of the last few weeks, but it's not interesting for freeriding there anyway.
Snow quality
Unfortunately, only about 5 cm of fresh snow instead of the 20 cm we had hoped for, which would probably have been needed to make the old snow surface with various crusts and old tracks disappear sufficiently. The north wind also picked up strongly during the day, but in the morning it was still reasonably fun to ski on N slopes.
Risks
Quite relaxed this morning, level 3 was still issued in the LLB, they had probably expected a little more fresh snow, also in the central Aosta Valley. With the N wind, some small drifts will probably form again, especially near ridges and ridges.
Overall impression
Well, a few decent descents but not really exhilarating. At least the weather was a bit better than forecast, so it wasn't a completely wasted freeride day.
