Snow report Valle D'Aosta, 04/05/2014
La Thuile - auch im W-Aostatal geht es dem Sommer entgegen
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Northern exposures above 2300 m still very good. Below 2000 m, especially in southern exposures, the snow cover has melted considerably and has partially melted away.
Snow quality
Spring snow. The southern slopes in France towards La Rosiere were already really boggy before midday, the northern slopes on the Little St. Bernard and towards La Thuile were still good to ski until the afternoon, even the valley run down to 1500 m. Besides the piste, you could still enjoy a few nice turns in the sulz if you got the timing right.
Risks
According to LLB 1-2: With the clear night and the further rising temperatures, the freeze-up limit has worked its way further up, probably well above 3000 m, except on completely shaded N slopes.
Overall impression
Today it was more skiing for the magnificent view and the weather. No longer recommended for freeriding at the moment. Some of the slopes were still good, but some were already boggy or still frozen like bocks, just spring skiing.
