Snow report Valtellina, 01/21/2015
(Report by Thom and Micha, posted by german) A nice day which was unfortunately marred by poor visibility in the afternoon. The opening of the Groppera gondola opens up a very varied area with different exposures.

Snow condition
Since Friday last week, up to 120 cm have fallen here in places. Up to 180 cm is currently possible due to wind and snow drifts. Snow from Friday (approx. 70 cm) has fallen on approx. 15 cm of hardpack/ice. Snow on Saturday (approx. 50 cm) is quite loose on top. Loose snow slides can be seen sporadically from 40° in N/E. Accumulation of drift snow in hollows and gullies is clearly visible (heavy drifting due to the wind). Up to 10 cm of fresh snow on Monday. Lots of wind from the south in places. Today, Wednesday, the fresh snow is clearly settling. It has currently snowed another 20 cm.
Snow quality
Everything can be found: from fine, loose fresh snow to hard snow variants.
Risks
On the whole, it's a high 3 for us, also because of the current increase in fresh snow. The south wind has blown some of the snow down to the hardpack. Unfortunately, there are also weak layers in the old snow cover. With further snowfall and cold temperatures, it will remain tricky here too.
Overall impression
Despite the limited options, you have fun here. Just under 4 stars because the food is so delicious in "bella Italia".
