Snow condition
The predicted quantities were nowhere near what was expected. It was also relatively warm. Alders and bushes not closed. But we got through the day without any stone contact
Snow quality
Relatively damp pow on a compact base mixed with drift snow. Nevertheless, very fast to ride and with good rebound. Suitable for faceshoots. Almost 4 stars
Wind drifted snow
Intensity: strong
Altitude: 800 m – 2100 m
Risks
Wind intensity: No Wind (0 km/h)
We have never seen so many avalanches in such a small area. We saw about 8 avalanches, 2 of them live. Everything from a small slide to an entire slope. Cracks, rumbling noises often perceptible. Many slopes in the entire N sector between Hochtannberg and Warth have gone down. Most of them from 35 degrees, sometimes even from 30, if things go badly. I think there was a partial burial in a mini ravine, which was only a few meters. Nothing happened in another avalanche that we saw live. Everything was extremely easy to trigger, really cool. Luckily there wasn't so much fresh snow, otherwise it would probably have ended badly more often. I would even call it a winter sportsman's 4 below 2200 (from there it was officially a 4). Terrain traps are also an issue, as visibility was poor for a long time today. We hit small "counter slopes" several times.
Avalanche activity
Wet slab avalanche (medium)
Altitude: 1800 m
Overall impression
Best day so far. Even sun at the end. With the way winter has gone so far, that's a subjective 4 stars. But you really have to be careful, it's pretty dangerous right now! The visibility was mostly too poor for photos.
