Solid snow conditions, you can get through the forest without any problems. Places exposed to the wind are quite blown off, there you should watch out for stones/obstacles.

Snow quality

At the end of April, you can only rate such cold, fluffy snow with the maximum number of stars. Temperatures were around -10 °C on the mountain until midday. About 25 cm to 30 cm was added overnight.

Risks

You should be very careful where the wind is blowing! There are numerous accumulations of drift snow, especially at the tree line. We were only out and about in the forest today, but the situation will be quite tense high up in the Alps. What's more, tomorrow's sunshine and the rise in temperature will add a strong impetus for subsidence.

At the meeting point early in the morning, the decision was made in favor of Zauchensee and that was a good thing! It was definitely the best day of variations so far this season.
