Looks like winter, feels like winter
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Good for November and especially compared to the last few years. Around 20-25cm of snow in the valley, with the lower 10-15cm being compact. Powder on top. With increasing altitude, an estimated 40-70cm of snow, again with a compact base that prevents it from blowing through.
Snow quality
Great powder where there was no wind, in exposed terrain sometimes a little wind-affected.
Risks
A few older slides probably from the foehn phase. The current snowpack structure up to about 2000m looks very compact and well bonded. Rather moist snow at the base, cold powder above. Could possibly lead to hazard pattern 4. Should be kept in mind in addition to drift snow close to the crest.
Overall impression
Pretty good for November. Nice powder, compact base, with good visibility you can make a few quick turns. The overall snow conditions are of course not yet suitable for full throttle. Conclusion: a great start to a hopefully good winter.
