Ski tour Tux Alps
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
There is still not too much snow, but you can still go on ski tours, I would say that you can start from about 1300m with skis, but you can only really do this on alpine meadows or paths. There is not enough snow anywhere in the denser forest, the best situation is at the edge of the forest. Further up (above about 2100m) you notice the constant influence of the wind, here the snow is unevenly distributed. Although you can ski quite well in hollows and gullies, contact with stones is to be expected at all times.
Snow quality
Good powder on the shaded side between about 1500m and 2200m. Further up in some areas the snow is still slightly wind-pressed but soft, but often also wind-harsh or simply hard; on the sunny side it's powdery to crusty; the trick is now to find untracked snow, after about a week of top weather during the Christmas vacations most of the Tux Alps have been completely dug over.
Risks
Currently manageable, with drifting snow above the tree line being an issue in addition to sliding snow, and today snow was again transported in ridge areas, and there are edgy layers at higher altitudes as well as widespread surface frost further down, i.e. it will be critical with the next snowfall.
Overall impression
Nice tour and also found an untracked slope, but a slightly better base would be desirable.
