Snow condition
It has snowed a good 40cm in the last few days. Unfortunately, the foundation is still lacking, but at least...
Snow quality
The fresh snow lies on an icy layer of old snow or on bare rock/vegetation. As the temperatures are very low and relatively little wind has accompanied the snowfall, the snow is extremely loose. There is dust up to both ears, but contact with the enemy cannot be ruled out.
Risks
The fresh snow lies very loosely on a hard, load-bearing crust. As the incline increases, there is always a lot of snow. We avoided steep areas due to the avalanche situation and if you want to go further into the terrain or higher up in the next few days with better visibility, you also have to pay more attention to drift snow.
Overall impression
Much more fresh snow has fallen than expected. It was still snowing heavily in places until midday today. Visibility was very limited and the cloud cover only lifted around 2pm. Unfortunately, my battery had already given up by then, so I couldn't take any more photos. But it looked fantastic. There was already a lot of snow near the slopes. With better visibility, there's sure to be a lot more to find in the next few days. However, the avalanche situation won't decrease so quickly with the low temperatures.
