Exposition
Snow condition
The last snowfalls have arrived in the Zillertal in decent quantities, so that many off-piste runs are now easily possible. The best place to watch out for rock contact is on ridges that have been blown away. There is enough snow in gullies and hollows. For deeper and denser forests, however, it may still be a little too scarce.
Snow quality
Despite the low temperatures, the sun already has some power. On the steeper south and west-facing slopes, there is already a thin layer of hard snow, which will not exactly delight many skiers. On the east and north sides, there is still very fine, somewhat settled powder snow.
Risks
Wind intensity: Low (< 20 km/h)
Some very powerful avalanche edges from the weekend can be seen. The avalanches, which have often blown up, have reached very large dimensions. The situation has probably eased somewhat in the meantime, but the LWD still rates it as considerable above 1800m. The situation could probably be a little better in the busy, sunny variant terrain. Today we found some settled, wind-free powder snow on a stable-looking layer of old snow.
Overall impression
Very nice freeride day with good lines and very fine snow in the right exposures. Even though a lot has already been tracked in the last few days of good weather, the restraint hasn't done any harm and even today, with the right instinct, there was still plenty to be had! :)
