Snow condition
Generally little snow in the Hintertux Glacier/Hoher Riffler area Above the tree line, the snow cover varies greatly, the ridge is blown off, some of the summit flanks have no snow left.
Snow quality
Generally poor snow quality: on the north side above approx. 1,700 m board-hard and strongly wind-pressed. On the north side below 1,700 m direct transition to deep, rotten wet snow. On the south side, firn-like conditions only at high altitudes, but the snow is mostly not load-bearing and wet
Risks
Wind intensity: Low (< 20 km/h)
Diurnal warming and wet snow avalanches/slides
Overall impression
Unfortunately, the snow quality was really bad throughout... on the north side above the tree line, hard as a board and wind-affected, below 1,600 m then deep wet snow down to the valley. Nevertheless, a great tour in fantastic weather.
