Variant skiing in Kaltenbach (1750mh-2200mh)
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Too little for this time of year, of course. A descent into the valley is out of the question. Actually, there is only sufficient snow from the top station of the gondola (1750mh). Here there is continuous snow cover (east, north-east), but some grassy areas are already coming through.
Snow quality
Only very rarely as good spring snow. From 12:00 and below 200mh really heavy snow that is very sticky and slows you down. In addition, the warming sometimes creates real holes and a few 10cm simply collapse. Once the sun has gone, however, the snow quickly starts to stick.
Risks
According to the LLB, stage 1 with a diurnal cycle to stage 2 below 2800mh. Probably due to the long warm period, however, we were unable to observe any spontaneous slides. In my opinion, the current trend is towards summer snow. But this will be interrupted by the dump tomorrow.
Overall impression
Well, a nice day on the mountain. Some fun runs in the slush (but extremely limited in time). It's just time for snow or alpine tours!
