Powdering on the Hintertux Glacier
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Super snow conditions. Downhill run to Hintertux still possible without any problems, even the forest run is still possible. At the top of the glacier there is a lot of snow, all variants are skiable. The wind has blown off a few ridges.
Snow quality
A lot of wind influence in it. The snow is still powdery on the north side. It's best in the north-facing hollows. Glamergrube still had good powder snow, so I actually skied there all day, but it's probably much harder on the south side due to the sunshine and the relatively warm temperatures.
Risks
There are many signs of wind in the snow surface. Drift snow is definitely something to watch out for. I've only been out on flat slopes today. The wind is expected to pick up even more tomorrow, and in addition to the drifting snow problem, there's also sliding snow to watch out for. Some big things have already come down.
Overall impression
Good powder day on the Hintertux Glacier. In the Glamergrube there were still surprisingly few tracks from the lecture, so I was able to make some nice tracks in the powder snow.
Otherwise used the good weather to take a look at the north faces in the area.
Hochfeiler north face - Looks quite good, from a distance you can only see small bare spots in the uppermost part of the wall. There is a large snow slab down in the lower part. Generally good snow conditions on the wall.
Hochferner north face - Generally good snow conditions, better than the last few years. Due to the glacier retreat, however, the wall needs a lot of snow. Vanis exit looks sad, the snow gully lookers right also suffers from the glacier retreat. There is a lot of snow in the glacier break itself. But it also needs more. Unfortunately, everything is strongly influenced by the wind.
Frozen wall northeast - Looks quite good. A small rock/ice step in the lowest part that would have to be dropped, otherwise enough snow in the wall. Unfortunately, I couldn't see how heavily snow-covered the exit/entrance is. But it can't hurt to climb the wall first before descending it.
Großer Möseler northwest face - the glacier below (very crevassed) is well snowed in, the face itself also has a lot of snow, but also with a lot of wind influence.
