Frozen wall north-east
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
In the lower areas and southern slopes, a lot has already thawed or come down. Otherwise, good snow conditions at the top of the glacier.
Snow quality
Unfortunately much worse than hoped for. A lot of wind influence at the top, a thick crust even on north-facing slopes. On slopes with sunlight you can find firn with good timing. But you should probably be there early. Otherwise, the transition from firn to rotten snow is very quick as the altitude decreases, and unfortunately the frozen face is only rock-hard snow that does not firn up in the exposure.
Risks
Be aware of wet and sliding snow due to the high temperatures. Stay high up and finish the tour in good time. A lot has already come down from south-facing slopes.
Overall impression
Unfortunately, the frozen wall was not rideable from above, as a lot of snow was blown out again. So we climbed 2/3 of the way up from below. Then bare ice between rocks. In the lower part there is a small steep step with ice on rocks. Can/must be dropped on the descent.
The downhill fun was also limited as the snow was very hard throughout. The edge hold of the board was close to the limit.
