The snow conditions are ok for the time of year. You can still ski quite a bit at glacier level, provided you have good local knowledge and know where the crevasses are. The snow is compact and you can avoid contact with rocks.

Difficult snow conditions off-piste. The fresh snow is sticky, heavy and there was also wind. There's no crust because it's too warm for that, but it's almost like skiing with a crust. So not the finest.

Risks

Due to the poor visibility, it was hardly possible to go far into the terrain because you simply couldn't see how steep the slopes above/below you were. The fresh snow (approx. 10 cm) seemed to be well bonded with the old snow.

It was actually a day better spent on the sofa.
Due to poor visibility (whiteout throughout), I was hardly able to go off-piste properly. The slope was bumpy and quite crowded.
In the gondolas, it was sometimes not possible to observe social distancing rules. Many guests no longer follow the rules consistently. More than half of the skiers took their masks off in the gondola. If you look at the coronavirus situation in German slaughterhouses, you have to assume that a damp, cold climate favors transmission. The climate in the gondolas is probably similar to that in the slaughterhouses. I can't imagine that this will work for long and I have great concerns, especially with a view to next winter. For the next season, you should probably get used to the idea of primarily going on tours, as normal lift operation will probably not be possible.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
