Piste/park day in Hintertux
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Outside the glaciers, of course, there is hardly anything between the scree. In the lower area of the Glescher, some of the slopes are covered in ice again. Further up, however, the piste conditions are reasonable for early October. The park is already open, but the Glescher crevasses are wide open everywhere. Visually, it certainly looks like winter in the upper area, but there is no ice on the slopes. There is hardly anything off-piste.
Snow quality
Above the 3000m mark the snow was powdery but very wind-affected below that it rained in and the surface was icy. It softened a little during the day. Good skiing on the pistes. Rather poor off-piste.
Risks
At the moment, the danger of crevasse falls is probably much higher than the danger of avalanches, but a few old loose snow slides from extremely steep shaded terrain were still visible.
Overall impression
A nice day to kick off the season and hone your carving and jumping technique in the park and on the piste. But the freeride possibilities are still very limited. You should be especially careful after the next fresh snowfall as there are sometimes wide open crevasses right next to the piste and snow bridges don't really hold at this time of year.
