Snow condition
It's October! The big dump was there but the snow conditions on the glacier are still moderate. 3 stars only because the snow conditions in the valley are impressive. In the sheltered (!) forest area you can find 50cm of snow almost all the time. A little less in the valley. We found the best snow on the north side just below 2000m. On the glacier itself, the snow depth is difficult to estimate as there was a lot of wind everywhere. The ski resort states 1m of fresh snow.... In general, however, contact with the ground (ice on the glacier, stones & forest floor the further down you go) is hard to avoid!
Snow quality
So again, I'm talking about the protected (!) forest area. The snow quality there definitely deserves 3 stars. Nowhere else, everything is wind-pressed.
Risks
According to the LLB, there is no stage yet. The text reads: "Sliding snow avalanches on steep meadow slopes, watch out for drift snow above the tree line!". We were able to observe sliding snow avalanches and the packs are also recognizable. But with experience and strategy, everything is manageable!
Overall impression
So if you have a Steinski and like treeruns this was a good day. I even got a few face shots. But when it comes to off-piste skiing on the glacier, the fun is limited! And with sun and powder in October, you can't complain.
