Variations of snow cover

Unfortunately, there is still very little off-piste. The standard variants at the very top, with glaciers as the surface, are already possible and have turned into moguls. Everything else, where rocks are the surface, is still very sharky at the moment. Of course, you should still watch out for crevasses, but there are still some interesting lines across the crevasse zones below the snowpark.

Hard, pressed snow
Powder snow

On the north-facing side, at least there is no snow cover, so there is still powdery snow. However, there was a lot of wind influence in places, which is why it was wind-pressed and blown away in some places. Due to the mixed snow quality and snow conditions, we concentrated on alpine skiing and only skied the north-west flank of the Olperer. Further down, we continued on slopes that are currently rather semi-rewarding (mostly hard and icy, or on postponed moguls).

Risks

Crevasse or fall danger

Wind intensity: No Wind (0 km/h)

No avalanche cracks or cones to be seen. Two weeks ago it looked completely different, with massive avalanche cracks visible in many high alpine exposures (e.g. Hochfeiler north face, Hochferner north face, Hintere Weißspitze northwest face). You should keep an eye on the current blog, there could well still be a problem with old snow in the high Alps.

Worse

Nice trip to the Olperer via the north ridge and then a few nice turns in the short north-west flank. The conditions on the ridge itself are not the easiest at the moment with loose powder snow on slabby rock, we recommend taking a rope with you, not just for the steep key section.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
