Snow condition

3 von 5 Sterne

On Saturday, November 25th, we went on a ski tour in the area and were able to get a good idea of where there was a base before the snowfall that followed on Sunday night. On Sunday we went skiing in the area. In general, below 1500m it is very scarce, even above that in the dense high forests there is still not enough. Above 1500m on open areas there was a decent base before the snowfall and so the almost 30cm of fresh snow on Sunday could be inhaled wonderfully. I was really surprised how well it went on Sunday, you could powder wonderfully on the north side all the way to the valley station in Hochfügen. With a very careful skiing style, scratches could be avoided completely. We didn't care, we went full throttle and also picked up a few stones, but it wasn't all that bad. Snow conditions felt like last year in February. Just under 3 stars

It fell almost without wind and cold, was already like wild snow. Very little wind influence on the ridges, but that didn't change the quality. According to the stations, the wind picked up a bit during the course of the day today.

Risks

The critical amount of fresh snow was reached in otherwise favorable conditions, so of course caution is advised even without an alarm signal. On Saturday, we were able to see a few large patches of gliding snow. Sluff and possible sliding snow avalanches were therefore the main problem. Otherwise, there were no warning signs. For the next few days, watch out for drift snow, the fresh snow is absolutely loose and is very easily transported. Hochfügen was among the leaders in terms of maximum precipitation values.

The first really deep powder day, you've had to wait much longer for that in recent years. For the next few days, I would recommend starting around 1500m and prefer tours in the northern sector without long forest approaches. And those who can take time off should do so. Apart from that, the prospects aren't bad, ski as much as you can now - you don't know how the winter will turn out. There was no time for good pictures.

Note on Conditions Reports

The ConditionsReports are user-generated content - from freeriders for freeriders! Recently, a distinction has been made between MiniReport, which offers a quick status report with location, image/video and text, and ProReport, which requires more detailed information and can be uploaded by advanced users.

Every registered user can enter the MiniReport in the WebApp, iOS app or Android app. If you would also like to upload ProReports, please write to us at conditionsreporter@powderguide.com so that we can activate it for you and briefly explain it to you!
If you need help with the operation or have suggestions for improvement, please write to us at app@powderguide.com!
