Ski tour in the Tux Alps (Schmirntal)
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Still pretty moderate. Despite the snowfall on the 27th and 29th of December, there is still little snow here, there was probably nothing at all before that. In the valley it's just enough to get going, but it's already a bit tight for skiing. Skiing is only possible on forest tracks and in forest aisles anyway, and there is far too little snow in the forest itself. Above the tree line, the amount of snow is unevenly distributed due to the influence of the wind, but all in all there is little snow here too.
Snow quality
The almost 20cm that fell yesterday came with practically no wind and therefore has a great fluffy quality, the still soft snow underneath is quite settled and very damp. All in all, though, it's quite nice to ride.
Risks
Treacherous, as the fresh snow that has fallen without wind covers everything. As the new fresh snow is unbound, at most it goes along as sluff, the problem is the heavily blown fresh snow underneath, caution is advised in any case!
Overall impression
Great weather, actually good snow, unfortunately far too little here too... Note: It looks better in the pictures than it is...
