Snow report Zillertal Alps South, 01/17/2015
Faceshotday in the Vals Valley (South Tyrol)

Overall impression
Snow condition
It snowed another 30cm overnight from around 1600. The heavy snow from yesterday has to serve as a base together with some old snow in the forest in the northern sector, which works surprisingly well, but still allows the odd contact with stones, sticks and branches. This time the snow fell without wind. It's slowly becoming something, but still not much for January, so a good two stars.
Snow quality
On top of the 30 cm of heavy snow from yesterday, another 30 cm of very light, powdery snow fell without wind. Very good and deep skiing, with face shots all day long.
Risks
Yesterday was already tricky due to the fresh snow that fell with a lot of wind. Today, due to more fresh snow, the wind loads are no longer recognizable. Above the tree line a very tricky threesome.
Overall impression
Subjectively, it was certainly a 5-star day, much better than expected, very nice snow and few people, so you could ski untracked the whole day. One point deduction due to the poor snow base.
