Exposition
Snow condition
Last week's dump was still clearly visible on Friday afternoon. Then the foehn storm came and swept many steep slopes clear again. Nevertheless, there is still plenty of snow in the protected cirques and gullies. Even after the coming warm spell, there should still be plenty to do for a while.
Snow quality
Very modest on the north side at altitude on Saturday, almost only broken snow or hard cover. On Sunday there was quite nice firn on the southeast side, but unfortunately only terrible braking snow down the whole valley. 3 *.
Risks
Wind intensity: High (40 – 60 km/h)
The old snow problem mentioned in the situation report worried me a little, so I changed my route a little. The warming caused loose and wet snow slides, but they were still manageable, mostly smaller, often on the west side. From Saturday onwards, there was a heavy foehn, which increased on Sunday. However, some of the snow has disappeared and the rest has been set in concrete.
Overall impression
A weekend in the impressive valleys of the eastern Zillertal Alps. Unfortunately, the snow quality was often poor and there were persistent foehn storms, but the ambience was still amazing and there were plenty of opportunities. Much of it is still absolutely worthwhile. (Unfortunately I couldn't create a location, so now under "South")
