Snow condition

There is little snow in the valley. However, there is a lot of snow on the mountains. Last night's snowfall meant a few centimeters of fresh snow in the valley at around 2000m above sea level, 5 to 10cm. In the Ehrwald basin (valley) there is still a thick blanket of snow. But at lower altitudes, e.g. in the forest, it's still a bit thin. Nevertheless, most ski tours in the area should be possible.

Snow quality

The snow quality naturally depended heavily on the amount of fresh snow. This fresh snow was on a hardpack and the higher you got (more fresh snow on a hard surface), the better it was to ski. Overall, I would describe the quality of the snow as mostly powdery and it was awesome to ski.

We consider the situation to be quite favorable. Nevertheless, attention should still be paid to the strong wind influence (cornices, drift snow...) from last week.

Overall impression

As we started today with the expectations of bad snow and uncertain conditions, all our expectations were exceeded. The weather, the snow and the choice of tour were all brilliant. I would even say that today was one of my best tours ever.
