Ski tour Roter Stein (Lechtal)
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
On the approach, we felt a little queasy due to the apparent lack of base, but this quickly subsided when we encountered beautiful powder with a light wind cover on the north-facing ascent. On the shaded side, the quality and quantity of the snow was excellent, very hard on sunny slopes. 45 minutes earlier and crampons would certainly not have been a bad idea.
Snow quality
Powder on the north side in the shade with light wind cover. East-facing slope with sun initially with a compact cover of harsch, then slightly firny on the descent.
Risks
Self-triggered avalanche cones could be seen all around in all exposures, which in most cases went to the bottom. Wide open snow mouths are also very numerous. I strongly advise against skiing on lower, sunlit east, west and south-facing slopes in the Lechtal region at the moment. The recognizable slopes were more green than white.
Overall impression
Super tour, which still offered enough snow for a wonderful descent due to its shady location.
