Skitour auf den Wannig

Snow condition
Below 1600m in the forest, survival skiing and slaloming between trees and mountain pines is the order of the day. Above that, the snow conditions in the sparse forest are fine for skiing. The Wannigkar is well filled and all downhill variants from the Wannig are also possible. Here, too, there is less snow on the west side and the ridges and crests are blown off but much better than in the Tannheimer Tal, for example.
Snow quality
Below 1900m, creamy wet pow which then turns into wet snow further down. Above 1900m, powder snow influenced by the wind, but it was easy to ski. The best snow quality was to be found in gullies protected from the west wind.
Risks
Above 2200m, there were more drifts than below. However, these were well connected to the old snow cover due to the warm temperatures.
Overall impression
Weathery day, lots going on in the Wannigkar. Unfortunately, we were greeted by clouds and wind instead of sunshine. So the day was not as warm as expected. However, we were able to ski directly from the summit and still found good snow there. We then took the Werdenfelsbahn back to Innsbruck in a relaxed manner.
