Grieskarscharte
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
Still lots of snow. There was some more snow above 1500m on the WE.
Snow quality
Partly still great powder snow, but where the sun has already been on it, a light crust and in the uppermost part of the Grieskarscharte very wet due to sunlight.
Risks
There were probably a few wet snow avalanches from steep, sunny rocky slopes yesterday, and the last section up to the Scharte was already very wet at 11 a.m. and every skier triggered a wet snow slide on the descent. The snow from the weekend was not covered with the old crust and slid off even with a small additional load. In low, shady areas, the powder snow was lying on an icy crust and also slid off.
Overall impression
Nice ski tour and a few powder turns were also included. From tomorrow I'll probably be skiing firn or looking for really narrow, shady gullies.
