The Zugspitze reported 40cm of fresh snow today. Of course, I couldn't miss out on that.
Snow quality
Loose powder on a hard base. In many areas, the fresh snow was enough to make it impossible to feel the base.
Risks
LL according to the report above 2200m (Tyrol), or 1800m (Bavaria) a 2. So nothing was blown up. Only around noon did a small avalanche break loose from steep rock faces, otherwise I couldn't observe any avalanche activity and had a pretty safe feeling while skiing.
Overall impression
Another powder day on the Zugspitze. First I tried Lermoos in the morning. But there wasn't that much fresh snow there, maybe 20cm. Then I quickly switched to Platt and it was worth it. Great powder and lots of sun at the top. There were still clouds further down.
For once I skied up to the Zugspitze from Ehrwald (usually from Eibsee). The Tyroleans were much friendlier and didn't make me wait 25 minutes for the next gondola, but went up spontaneously and just for me. In Germany, the gondola currently only runs every 30 minutes and even if 20 people or more are waiting, there is no intermediate ride.
Praise for the Tiroler Zugspitzbahn with friendly staff and more flexibility.
