Exposition
Snow condition
1-2 stars. At the bottom, of course, there was only snow on the piste. There was probably not much snow around the Igelsee before yesterday. But today the tour went really well, only in the flat area in front of the Igelsee forest was a little caution required on the descent.
Video
Snow quality
With a tendency towards 4 stars, really nice to ride :-) The layer underneath was not completely hard, so old tracks were hardly a problem. The amount of fresh snow varied with the altitude: sometimes 30cm quite far down and then "only" 10cm further up. On average I would say 20cm. Depending on the season, of course, the powder snow quickly became wet depending on the exposure, time and altitude.
Risks
Wind intensity: Medium (20 – 40 km/h)
In addition to the avalanche described below and visible in the picture, there was a loose snow avalanche in the course of the day in eastern exposure at about 2000m. We aborted the ascent to Breitenkopfgrat via the SW side due to drift snow packs. In steeper terrain there was sluff to watch out for.
Avalanche activity
Dry slab avalanche (small)
Altitude: 2200 m
Overall impression
Surprisingly good weather and really good snow :-) There was only a little fresh snow on all the surrounding measuring stations, so it was well worth going out anyway :-) Due to the epic atmosphere in the morning tendency towards 4 stars
