Summer operation interpreted to my taste
Snow condition
Snow quality
Overall impression
Snow condition
An unusually large amount of snow for this time of year, and not on the glacier, but below 2000m (1700-2000m). No rock contact if you ski with foresight, only a cleared path had to be crossed. Had old skis and therefore didn't need to unbuckle at all.
Snow quality
The snow was of course very wet, but not dull and much more pleasant to ride than I had expected.
Risks
The fresh snow of the past few days has slid down the old snow on slopes above 30°. I therefore only skied below 30° and kept away from steep rock faces, but couldn't observe any spontaneous avalanche activity.
Overall impression
The Alpspitz and Hochalmbahn lifts have started operating in summer. I was very pleased to be able to enjoy a good morning's skiing with lift assistance without having to struggle uphill. The Hochalmbahn ran every 15 minutes so I hardly had to wait and queuing wasn't an issue anyway ;-) All in all, it was a great experience, even if I was initially met with skepticism by the lift staff.
Unfortunately, the visibility wasn't ideal, sometimes more, sometimes less fog, but no problem in terms of orientation.
I can imagine that it will be just as good over the next few days.
