Going East - By ski and train into the unknown

A freeride adventure through Eastern Europe between untouched snow, cultural encounters and the magic of slowness

Date

Location

Medius Center
Kurgarten 1
83684 Tegernsee
Four freeriders venture off the beaten track: they explore Eastern Europe on skis and public transport. They not only encounter wild slopes, but also stories, people and the discovery of a decelerated way of travelling.

Description

At picturesque Lake Tegernsee, everything revolves around mountains on the big screen from 15-19 October 2025, with a focus on the encounter between man and mountain: from daring feats to impressive documentaries and touching portraits. Away from the cinema screens, family charm and the Bavarian way of life inspire filmmakers and mountain lovers from all over the world.

As part of the 22nd International Mountain Film Festival Tegernsee, the film Going East will be presented under the heading "Ski in mind", which we would like to recommend to you. The other films are also sure to make for an entertaining and exciting evening.

Going East

Max Kroneck, Joi Hoffmann, Silvia Moser, and Loïc Isliker set off on an extraordinary adventure: instead of travelling to the well-known ski resorts in the Alps, they head east by ski and train. Their route takes them through Eastern European landscapes where hardly anyone would expect to find freeride runs.

Along the way, they meet local freeriders who open up their mountains to them, while cultural idiosyncrasies and language barriers are a constant source of surprises. The weather also shows its moody side - but that is precisely what makes the trip so appealing.

In the end, the four find far more than unspoilt snowy slopes: they discover stories, encounters, and a feeling of closeness in a foreign land. The film "Going East" tells of the beauty of a slow, conscious way of travelling - an alternative to the restless pace of our time.
